Happy Thanksgiving

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and enjoy time with your family.  Baking our pumpkin bread this week and creating our Thankful poems was so much fun.  I am thankful that I get to surround myself with such kind, eager to learn students each day.

A Great Week

Thank you all so much for coming in to talk during conference week. I truly value our partnership and look forward to many great months ahead.

Thanks to Asher's grandfather for coming in to surprise the kids as this week's mystery reader!

Ealy House

The Historical Society enjoyed our visit at the beginning of the month and want to invite families to come to their Open House on Friday after Thanksgiving.  They will be open from 1-3 pm and will allow families and students to go up into the attic.  Students can also investigate a little more in some of the rooms since they have more time. If you are around over the holiday weekend, try and stop in to explore this historical house!

Research Groups, Reading Notebook and A "Moose"try Reader

We continued our learning about the past by forming interest research groups and reading new information on Pebble Go. Each group created a chart about their topic in the present day and is working on a chart of information about the past. We will turn this information into an organized paragraph that compares the past to the present. Each group will also be responsible for presenting their information to the class in an interesting and creative way.

We have been reading fiction books that take place in the past so we can learn more as well. After reading Summertime in the Woods students used their Reading Noteboook to record a text to self connection they found. Connections are a great way to show understanding. We will continue by learning about text to text and text to world connections soon.

We ended our week with another "moose"try reader!  Eve's mom joined us to read If You Give A Moose A Muffin!

Fluency Practice

Most students at this time need a lot of practice with math fact fluency.  Yesterday we played a fun game to help us practice that concept.  With Addition Blocks, you need to find numbers that add up to the falling block and click on them to clear them out before the block hits the ground.  You can use 2, 3, 4 or 5 numbers to add up to the total you are looking for.  Check it out as another way to practice math facts!  Please note, we found that the game works on a computer and not on a tablet.

Ealy House

What a wonderful experience we had today as we stepped back in time and visited the Ealy House.  This was a great opportunity for the students to see just how different life is compared to life 150 years ago.  They were able to learn about the bedrooms, basement, kitchen, parlor and dining room.  Everyone seemed to have a favorite room and fact that they learned from today's field trip.  Thanks so much to our volunteers.  I hope you learned something new as well...I know I did!

We ended our day with a visit from Maleficent (Anna's mom!) who read us a fractured version of Sleeping Beauty called Snoring Beauty!  It was a very funny story that had the kids laughing and snoring throughout!
